My Weirdest Ethical Belief

Originally published June 25, 2016

I think male homosexuality is good and female homosexuality is bad. Mostly due to asymmetries in the sexual marketplace, the surplus of men. The upshot if you agree with me is that if you are a bisexual of either gender you should limit yourself to men. This is doubly good: it occupies a given man and frees up a theoretical woman. Additionally, putting this into practice should help control overpopulation (and be accord with antinatalism, which I also hold), though this isn't why I hold the belief at all.

  1. Shouldn't a surplus on one side of the marketplace lead to "prices" (i.e. how much people are expected to invest into a relationship) adjusting, until enough people are priced out on the surplus side (in this case, guys no longer seeking a relationship because it's too much effort/work/money/etc.) and priced in on the shortage side (in this case, women who would otherwise choose to be single finding a relationship to be worth it) to bring balance?

I guess there's only so many people who can be priced in, and pricing out in this case creates angry incels who cause problems for society, so maybe that isn't such a great thing though, creating a reason for us to try to interfere in the market with policies like yours to bring the prices to correspond to a 1:1 quantity (i.e. same price on both sides at 1:1). But interference in any market causes deadweight loss, people who wish they could do something mutually beneficial that the regulations forbid them from. Another solution that might work, and avoid deadweight loss, is that we could just accept polyamory/polygamy and let the market find its proper equilibrium price and quantity (resulting in polyandry, given your description of a surplus of men).
